we have one small area that the kitty found a few times before we found it and even with using febreeze and a carpet cleaning the smell comes back…..HELP
Biological Ariel liquid for clothes, borax, or baking soda diluted in warm water and scrubbed onto the spot where the "accident" has occurred. Repeated scrubbing may be needed until the smell has been neutralized. All these products are alkali based and will neutralize ammonia. Most people think that using bleach is the best way to clean and neutralize the smell of wee, but in fact, because bleach is ammonia based, it has a similar based smell to wee and this will only attract cats to go back to that spot to wee again because they think another cat has been there after them to mark that very same spot for territorial purposes and that just perpetuates the wee'ing cycle in the problematic spot.
All the best.
a friend of mine just moved and her cat is freaking out and peeing everywhere what brand should she use?
Mythbusters helped me discover the best urine odor remover :
baking soda and peroxide!
It has worked on cat urine smell that was impenetrable to removal by every commercial preparation on Petco's shelves AND to Oxy Clean.
I saw the episode where they tried it on skunk odor ( and it was effective ) and thought, if it works on that, how would it work on old cat funk? It worked WONDERS! I didn't have to throw out a pet carrier I was THISCLOSE to throwing out! We were at our wits end!
MythBusters, the hydrogen peroxide mix was found to be the most effective smell removal agent.[6]
From Popular Science Aug. 1995, chemist Paul Krebaum provided the recipe for the bathing concoction. One quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, one quarter cup of baking soda, and one teaspoon of liquid soap. then rinse with tap water. There is no way to store this potion. If you put the ingredients in a bottle, the whole thing would explode.
If the cat is still urinating outside the litterbox after a couple of days she really needs to take it to a vet as the stress of the move may have predisposed it to a urinary tract infection.
Peeing outside the litterbox is the hallmark symptom of cystitis, and could indicate either minor or major kidney problems, too.
It won't allow me to post the wikipedia or mythbusters links below
EDIT: I had ALREADY STATED that every odor removal product available at PETCO had NOT worked when I tried the method I recommend, and that INCLUDED Simple Solution Cat Spray & Urine Stain & Odor Remover that was posted AFTER my entry. I also purchased every odor removal product for sale at Wal Mart. I had a cabinet full of ineffective products before I discovered the best solution. I had well over $100 on various products. I had a male cat with kidney failure who urinated in inappropriate places before he died. The only thing that worked with 100% efficacy was the baking soda/peroxide mixture. There may be fabrics that it could bleach so be careful.
I found other uses for those pet odor removal products, however. They were effective for trash can odors and they were also useful for my husbands muddy work boots..and son's sweaty sneakers. They were ineffectual for cat urine smell. I have a sensitive nose for odors.
BEFORE you waste your money purchasing products that don't work..try the more inexpensive method and I KNOW you will be happy with it!
My husband left his shoes outside and a cat pissed in them. What can I use to get rid of the smell? Why do cats love to pee in shoes?
Hi Crystal…Cats who urinate on shoes could be a territorial marking behaviour especially if they are not fixed. Other times it could be a result of a lower urinary tract infection. This is a common warning symptom. Here's a very well-written website about why cats soil homes inappropriately by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine of Feline Health: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/Housesoiling.html
Consider Nature's Miracle Just for Cats found worldwide at most pet stores. It's an enzymatic neutralizer which works by breaking down urine proteins by thoroughly soaking the areas affected and allowing to air dry. Repeated applications are necessary for heavily soiled areas. Shoes will take a little bit more applications and it may or may not work since urine can hide in between the linings where it's difficult to get the enzymes in. However, it certainly is worth a try.

Okay, so my cat (who has never done this before) has started marking territory, or at the very least pi$$ing all over my stuff. For starters he peed on some clothes I had sitting in a box in my bedroom closet. Then this morning I start to smell this horrid cat urind stench (and this cat has the worst I have ever smelled) in my apartment, come to find out there is a big pile of cat urine on MY BED! First of all, I don't know what to do to rid my cat of this nasty habit, and second of all, I don't know what to do to get the smell and stain our of my BRAND NEW BED. I promptly made the cat and outdoor area on the patio, complete with food, water, and a house fashioned out of an old rubbermaid container with a whole cut into the side of it. Now what do I do about the stain in my matress? I have used this stuff called 'Complete' Pet Stain and Odor Remover, but as soon as it dried, the smell is still there. Will steam cleaning help? Anyone else have any ideas?
Also, my husband won't let me have the cat fixed because he thinks its cruel. Will I ever be able to bring him inside to live again?
Try using Urine Gone
