Question for KRISTEN - when using 1/4 cup listerine, how many cups water and how many cups vinegar should you use? 6 and 4?
References :
I have FOUR cats, and two have had litter issues.

After having spent hundreds of dollars on professional steam cleaning, every carpet product, Natures Not So Cheap Miracle, Feliway...here is the only thing that works. And you can make it at home.

1. Blot up as much pee as possible if the stain is new.

2. If you can, check and see if it has gone into the carpet pad.

3. If the pee has reached the carpet pad, you'll need to repeat this a few times

60% super hot tap water

40% white vinegar

1/4 cup Original Listerine (seriously)

The white vinegar will neutralize odor. The Listerine breaks down the proteins in the cat urine and helps discourage your cat from marking the spot again. It shouldn't stain carpet, I dunno about upholstery.

Don't worry about the vinegar odor--it WILL fade fairly quick. Like, 8 hours at the most!

4. SOAK the carpet (dont flood it, btu get it wet!) w/ the solution.

5. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then blot it up.

6. Wet the carpet with the solution again, but this time cover the spot up with something heavy and laminated, like an old phone book or something. You do this because you want the solution to have time to neutralize the odor.

7. Wait about 6 hours. Blot the solution up again.

8. Dampen, don't wet or soak the carpet, and this time let the spot air dry.

You may have to repeat this process over a few days, especially if the pee has reached the carpet pad. The best thing you can do is remove the soiled carpet pad but that isn't always possible.

I promise you given time, the smell WILL fade.

Your carpet will NOT smell like vinegar and listerine once dry.

You can also try using club soda to blot up fresh cat stains.

I swear this is the onlyt hing that has ever worked for me, and you should relax because this WILL work! :)
References :
Four filthy ass cats!

rent a steam cleaner, use lots of baking soda on the carpet before you add the water soap mixture. open the windows and let air dry several days, you may have to repeat several times to become effective. the problem is that the urine is soaked into the pad under the carpet, the only sure fire way to get it all is to replace the carpet and pad at the same time and scrub the sub floor with deoderizer and hot soap followed by a stain sealer on the sub let dry completely and replace with new cover material, yes its time consuming and somewhat expensive, if you skip a step, you`ll get an instant reminder when you close the windows and add heat to the rooms----- good luk
References :
1. Remove and replace all the carpet. After it is pulled, treat the floor with an enzyme containing pet smell cleaner.

2. Try shampooing with the enzyme cleaner.

Good luck. Oh, and treat the walls too.
