Author: My cat has been nutard and has been peeing on this one area of carpet ( marking his territory ). We have tried cleaning it wil some spray and shampooing the carpet. But he keeps on going back there because the smell is still there. Is there anything we can try to get the smell gone so he wont pee down there anymore? Thank you.
Mix 1 cup of vinegar in when shampooing and it will help eliminate the odor of urine and hopefully discourage him from going there. he may have a Urinary Tract Infection going on as well, that would make him go on th carpet and be naughty at times. You may want to call your vet and see what they think. They may want you to bring up a urine sample or else yuor cat so they can get one to check and see. This will help in ruling out whether it is a health problem or behavioral problem. It could possibly be caused by the neutering. Please just call and check.

my friend told me that there is an odor eliminator at walgreens, one of those "as seen on tv" things. it is about $20 for a bottle, but she swears it works great, and after spraying, could smell absolutely nothing. this was after the roommates cat went wild spraying, and her pet rat escaped and was hiding and living in the kitchen, peeing behind the fridge. oh, and moron above me should be smacked and locked in a basement. i hope you don't have any pets idiot.

Aren't pet stains annoying?! I have a dog that is pad trained but she misses frequently and just rebels and uses the carpet, so I know what you mean. As for removing the stain, 2 things seem to work more than others. 1. Folex: You can find it at Wal-Mart or Target, it is packaged in a white spray bottle. It is completely safe and works well. 2. Natures Miracle: You can find this at the pet store, it is pretty expensive, but it works well and discourages resoiling I believe. I would also suggest putting the litter box next to the stain for a few days and spraying it with the spray you can get from the pet stores that makes them want to use the box/pads. It is like an enzyme formula. If all else fails, just keep shampooing and try Febreze, just make sure you choose the one safe for use around animals. It will specify right on the lower portion of the back label. The Febreze would remove the smell that he is looking for. I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!

The suggestion above about the pet odor eliminator will work to remove the stain and odor and you will not notice it. However, our burglar alarm went off and our nervous cat soiled our carpet. We had the same trouble after extracting the stain with a carpet extractor and odor eliminator. The cat just came back (we were gone for a few days' after it initially occurred). We solved it best by cutting our carpet out around the stain. Found the stain in the floorboard. We cleaned the floorboard, put down a sealant and replaced a 12×12 square of replacement carpet. It worked.
