Author: I left my jacket outside, but when I found it, it had a strong bad smell, I think a cat urinated on it. How can I get rid of that smell?
Okay i work with the southwest humane society of texas, and frequently with the local animal shelter, DO NOT, use any sprays (urinebegone, etc, etc) just rinse it in warm water then wash it in cold. if not that….. to the professionals! the dry cleaners in other words

oh and btw a urinating problem with a cat that is not seeking revenge or is not an un neuter male, might be a health issue, give a male canfood regurlarly so he does not develop urine crystals.. and feel along the spine for any sensitivity

usually just washing it like you normally would will get rid of the smell. I'm staying with my boyfreinds mom, and her two cats pee on everyones stuff. I have to wash my blankets every week, and the smell is gone after just washing it once.

Soak the jacket in a mixture of water and white vinegar, assuming it's washable. After you've let it soak a couple of hours or overnight, squeeze as much water out of it as you can and then wash it like normal in the washing machine, with soap.
If it's dry clean only, it's probably a loss…dry cleaning will not remove cat urine odors.

I am assuming that this jacket is not leather so I will recommend you wash your jacket in White Vinegar, one cup added to your wash water without any detergent added just run through a cycle is all that is needed to remove the cat urine smell, use the warmest water that your jacket can stand for this cleaning, then hang your jacket up to dry preferably in a bathroom where it is out of direct sunlight and birds flying overhead, direct sunlight will cause your jacket to fade while drying after this treatment but only while drying.

Personal experience Using Vinegar to deodorize all throughout the home clean and disinfect also clean and remove stains and odor from your laundry. Vinegar is known for being the best disinfectant in the world. and is least expensive.
take a steam cleaner to it or wash in in one gallon of water to a half cup of baking soda. then just wash it an dry it.
