What is the best product or home remedy for removing the cat urine smell from frabics and/or carpet? Cat urine odour removal? >>
We just moved to a house, and the downstairs reeks of cat pee. The carpet has been shampooed, and I sprayed Woolite Pet Odor Remover along all the walls, and wiped them down, but the smell is still here. What else can I do?

Tips and Tricks
1. Remove cat urine eHow Friend
I use Oxyclean for my pet's messes. It has saved my cat! This product is indeed a miracle. You need to check the fabric or carpet to make sure it doesn't change the color. My sister found it at Walgreens.
2. It will smell as good as you! eHow Friend
One day we forgot to clean my cat's litter box. The next day we saw yellow liquid on the couch. We cleaned it up and sprayed Febreeze on the cushions. We couldn't get the odor to go away. We decided to use perfume. The perfume took away the odor.
3. Aluminum foil eHow Friend
Cat's don't like the noise foil makes. Lay some foil down where your cat shouldn't go to the bathroom, (couch, chair, floor, etc.). They will step on it and walk away.

I have had very good results on upholstry, carpets, etc. with a product called "Krud Kutter," usually with just one application. I get it at Wal-Mart in the painting section. It's also non-toxic, biodegradable, non-flammable and non-abrasive…and it smells good, too! Website: www.krudkutter.com

I tried a few things, but baking soda made an immediate obvious difference. I used warm water and baking soda the day after my cat urinated on my bed and I noticed the smell go away instantly. As for the pillows and blankets, I washed them twice with hot water and detergent. That seems to have worked as well.

If it has been there for a long time, there might be the chance that the urine has soaked through the rug and into the flooring underneath. If it is unbearable, you might want to think about pulling up the carpet and cleaning the flooring underneath.
References :
Replace the carpet. Urine gets into the padding underneath and also the sub floor under both of them. You need to take up both and clean the floor before replacing the carpet. It's a costly pain in the butt however, you'll be glad you did it.

It's most likely in the pad and you will never get rid of it. If you bought the place, I'm afraid you're stuck with the cost. If you're renting, tell the landlord you need new carpet.
Go to a carpet dealer and see if they have any remnants that will fit your room.
Urine be gone doesn't work by the way…

You need to wash the affected areas thoroughly with a solution of biological washing powder (non-bio will not work as it doesn't contain the enzymes to break down the ammonia in the urine), then rinse thoroughly, allow to dry completely and then spritz it with surgical spirit.
Hope that helps!!!

My sister had the same problem., She had to remove the carpet for reasons stated by others. The urine had soaked into the wood flooring. She put a bowl of vinegar with a sponge in it on the floor near the strongest part of the stink and it actually did work! Good luck, that is a lousy housewarming gift.

I could never understand why anyone would keep an animal that would do that!!! They wouldnt let any other family member pee on the floor, would they?????
