I am looking for bad or unsucessful used of NILODOR for cleaning cat urine "into" carpets.
Will NIKOLDOR work sucessfully even in hot weather or do I change the carpets. Underlay soaked and floor stained
Hiya Stewbug,
Nilodor is not really that successful in getting rid of urine stains or scent. I did not find it helpful at all, sorry to say.
We just went through this ourselves with our 8 year old Oriental Shorthair and what we finally had to do was to get rid of the carpet, carpet pad and the bedding, since all of them were soaked. When we replaced the carpet, we sealed the floor underneath with a polyurethane wash to make sure that none of the odor that had soaked into the floor below was able to leak out and ruin the pad and carpet from below.
It is a very difficult task to get rid of this horrible mess. But it can be done.
I have found a really excellent product that is available from Walmart. It is called Kids and Pets and it does the job nicely with any further inappropriate elimination. Our cat is getting a lot better so the frequency of spraying has diminished.but he still does continue to spray now and again. Staying on top of the problem really is crucial.
I also purchased a black light, which in darkness will flouresse any urine on the carpet and then it can be handled with the product. You can get a fairly inexpensive black light through Amazon.com. It is a good investment to be able to find those spots that need cleaning.

But most importantly you probably need to check out why your cat is not using the litter box. There are so many reasons that cats who are usually fastidiuous about their elimination stop using their boxes.
I wish you the best of luck. I totally understand.I hope this helps.

Get rid of the carpet and padding. Treating the odor on the carpet alone is a temp fix at best. The cat will always know and your guests will soon know as well. If it was me, this would now be an outdoor cat. Bad habits are hard to break.

Personally I'd just get rid of the carpets completely and get to work scrubbing the floor
