I'd prefer a good home remedy but opinions on shop bought products would be useful, thanks.
damp cloth with vinegar
leave on wet patch
with newspaper on top
and two telephone books
the urine smell will be gone in a few hours then wash the patch with normal washing soap and leave to dry
febreeze it and we have a clean dry aromatic patch where once there was Kittie mess

I would go for the shop bought one – it is the only odour remover that works thoroughly when it comes to cats.
I tried everything in the cupboard, from bi-carb to vinegar, and they helped a little but there was still a trace of odour left behind. With the shop bought bottle (sorry, can't remember the name), every trace of odour disappeared.

Most people you ask would probably say Nature's Miracle but there is alot of temporary masking involved in it too. I have found the best to be a good dose of vinegar in water and scrub it. One caution-NEVER use amonia or bleach as their smell is reminiscent to cats of urine and they will usually urinate where they detect those odors. Never use either in the litter box. Litter boxes should be cleaned with a mild dish soap and hot water. As to the white vinegar, it works very well and it is cheap. It also disinfects and is great for washing counter tops and almost anything. Because it disinfects or kills germs, I always throw a dash in my dish water too.

Urine stains are one of a pet owner's biggest headaches, particularly cat urine which has a singularly unpleasant smell and can seem to linger forever if not treated quickly. Whatever you do, never use an ammonia-based cleaner on a urine stain caused by a pet as the smell will attract the animal back to that spot.
If the urine stain is fresh, you can usually treat it by just rinsing it thoroughly in cold water and then washing it as normal, using a biological laundry detergent if possible (same as for vomit). If the stain is older and dried, you will need to soak the garment overnight in a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide and water, then wash as directed above. An alternative to this is soaking in salty water, if you do not have hydrogen peroxide handy.
Carpets are a little more difficult in that they cannot be soaked. However, you can treat the area immediately with soda water which should minimise the staining. Once the excess urine has been blotted up, sponge the stain with salty water and then rinse and blot dry.
Again, sprinkling bicarbonate soda onto the stain and leaving for a while before vacuuming should combat any lingering odours.
Note that urine spraying in cats is a serious problem and aside from tackling the immediate stain, you will need to consult an animal behaviourist and perhaps treat your cat with some pheromone therapy, otherwise you will be fighting a losing battle with cat urine and odour.

Cat urine contains ammonia which is a base, use vinegar which is an acid. Vinegar works well as a spot treatment for cat urine in any situation, especially since detergent (or soap) is also a base and will not always dissolve the urine in the wash.

The only remedy is to get rid of the cat.
I look after my neighbours two cats when they are on hols, and the things pee in the kitchen, crap indoors, and are a stinking pair of critters.
I am an animal lover, but that is too much.
A litter tray, and bung the thing out to do its' business elsewhere.
Would you p*ss on the floor, then wonder where the smell is coming from ?
Remove the original problem, and no remedy is required.

I use Simple Solution with great results. I've got several cats and have had kittens with problems, females in heat that had to "mark" and male cats that needed to establish a territory by marking. I used a black light to zero in on exactly where the smell was coming from and then cleaned it according to the package directions. Amazing stuff. (Available in pet stores). Keep in mind, though, that bare wood and concrete are porous and after cleaning you'll need to let it dry and then spray it with varnish to seal in the smell. I have a very sensitive nose and this is something that works VERY well.

Vinegar…it works every time and the strong smell of vinegar goes after a while as well it is also a good deterrant for cats and they will not wee where there is a vinegar smell.
Use the same on big cats beleive it or not they too hate it!!!

i get arm and hammer pet odor remover it works real good on that and on pet poop also

home remedies cant get the urine ALL THE WAY OUT! urine can remain in carpets for a long time even hardwood floors.
this product somes with a black light so u can actually SEE the urine and get it gone for good.

white vinegar worked for me. my cat went in heat and sprayed on my living room chair. the smell was awful. I used straight vinegar on that w/ a mini shampooer. i would dilute it a bit if you shampoo your floors
