<< How do I get cat urine out of my carpet?  How to get rid of the smell of cat urine? >>

It's the smell of decaying fatty deposits in cat urine that makes it smell so bad. You need to buy a cleaning product that contains enzymes to get rid of these fatty deposits. These are available at vets and pet stores.

A home remedy that also works is to mix 10% biological (enzymatic) washing powder with 90% warm water to clean the area. Then rinse thoroughly with cold water and wipe dry. Next, using a plant mister lightly spray the area with a low grade alcohol or surgical spirit. Use a nail brush to ensure you get right into the fibres of the fabric, this will remove any traces of fatty deposits that the washing solution may have missed. Allow the area to dry thoroughly or you can use a hair-drier to speed things up. I'd recommend testing this on a small area first to ensure it doesn't remove the colour from the carpet or fabric of the affected area. Dependent upon how strong the smell is, you may need to repeat this cleaning method.

Cat urine contains ammonia, so whatever you do, don't use bleach or any products containing ammonia to clean the area. Your cat may just think that another cat has over-marked the area and he will end up urinating there again in order to cover up the "other cat" smell.

together I suggest funnel ingredients into a empty dish soap bottle.. after all the integredients mentioned above.. add just a little water. Cap the bottle and shake it well then use on carpet test in small area first! squirt mixture on carpet let sit a bit then pat dry!

mix vinager and water in a spray bottle and spray and whipe the area. it works for my rabbit urine smells. also if its a stinky litter box and u only have one cat, get the multi cat litter, its got extra smell protection so it should compensate for one cat very well.

First get as much urine out of the carpet as possible with a dry, clean rag. Then I soak it thoroughly with an Oxyclean/water mix & scrub it lightly. It may take a couple applications but it gets rid of the stain and the odor.
